The Story
Oscar winner Bong Joon-ho's THE HOST (2006) is a part creature-feature, part allegory of American imperialism.
Careless American military personnel dump chemicals into South Korea's Han River. Several years later, a creature emerges from the tainted waters and sinks its ravenous jaws into local residents, spreading panic and death, and turning the riverbank into a gruesome sea of blood.
Amid the chaos, a little girl, Hyun-seo is snatched up by the creature right before her distraught father, Gang-du’s (Song Kang-ho) eyes.
